Belgium has emerged as one of the European countries with the highest Schengen visa rejection rates, with over a quarter of applications (26.6%) being turned down. This places Belgium in the third spot for visa rejections within the Schengen zone.
A total of 225,951 people applied for a Schengen visa to enter Belgium. However, 60,148 of these applications were rejected, reflecting the stringent visa approval process.
Certain nationalities have been disproportionately affected by these rejections. Among the hardest hit were applicants from Senegal, with a staggering 67.8% of their visa requests declined. Following closely were Angolans, with 66.44% of their applications turned down, and Nigerians, who faced a 62.45% rejection rate.
These figures highlight the challenges many non-EU nationals face in obtaining Schengen visas, particularly when attempting to enter countries like Belgium, which is known for its strict application assessments.
