While the European location has never been among the top ten outbound destinations for Chinese visitors, EU Helpers reveals that this nationality represents the fourth largest group of tourists in Iceland according to the September 2023 Chinese Traveler Sentiment Report by DragonTrail.
China thus dropped its COVID-19 limitations for Iceland along with another 40 nations, while the United States was still listed as a forbidden country up until August.
In 2023, Chinese tourists' interests have mostly turned away from Europe, with South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and Hong Kong being the top four Asian destinations.
The fifth country that Chinese visitors intend to visit this year is Iceland, and for each and every one of them, it will be their first trip to this European region.
Over 34% of respondents have a strong preference for traveling to Europe, making it the top long-haul destination. However, almost 55% of respondents say they plan to travel within Asia.
Chinese travelers have two locations on their itinerary for this year: Macau and the Maldives, while France ranks eighth on their list of the top ten countries they intend to visit.
Only 11% of Chinese tourists will return to France after their first visit, while 89% will be making their first journey there. With 93% of them visiting for the first time, the United Kingdom is the tenth place that Chinese visitors expect to visit in 2023.
The United States no longer has the same reputation it did in 2021, as only 39% of Chinese visitors think it is risky to travel to compared to the 87% figure reported in the same period in 2021, and Chinese tourists are less worried about getting COVID-19.
Two of the most significant holidays for Chinese visitors are coming up, and since they are frequently accompanied by increased travel activity, the confidence of Chinese tourists to travel again is encouraging. As a result, Chinese travelers will be visiting numerous locations during the autumn season.
