Evolyn stated on Wednesday that it has reached an agreement to purchase 12 trains from renowned French multinational rail vehicle maker, Alstom. According to EU Helpers, the corporation also said that this appropriation might be expanded to cover 16 trains.
Additionally, the Evolyn project has received a total investment of £1 billion (€1.16 billion). The service is anticipated to be completely operational by 2026, with the trains set to start running in 2025.
A representative for Evolyn indicated that the consortium's shareholders and ownership are made up of a variety of French and British partners.
The businessmen, investment funds, financiers, seasoned railway experts, and international funds who make up this partnership, he continues, all have a strong stake in the project.
With the help of high-speed rail connectivity between London and continental Europe, Eurostar has been extremely successful. The business generated an exceptional underlying profit of €332 million last year.
Although it announced in June that the number of passengers traveling on its London–Holland route had increased significantly—more than doubling from pre–pandemic levels—the well-traveled route could be halted as of June 2024 due to renovations being made to the Dutch capital's main railway station.
Getlink, the French company in charge of operating the infrastructure of the Channel Tunnel, responded to Evolyn's announcement by saying that this development highlights the market's potential for expansion in terms of cross-Channel passenger rail. They also emphasized that the Channel Tunnel's infrastructure can support roughly twice as much train traffic as it does at the moment.
Getlink claims that the Channel Tunnel operates on a "open access" system that guarantees all train operators traveling between the British and European networks the same access rights.
A non-stop route between London St. Pancras International and Paris Nord is also part of Evolyn's ambitious proposal. Although future stops in northern France may be possible, no further routes are currently under consideration.
The company is currently in negotiations to gain access rights to the track, a necessary step in bringing this high-speed train service to life. These plans have been in the works for three years.
