Exciting news for Poland's energy future! Rolls-Royce has signed a letter of intent with Świętokrzyska Grupa Przemysłowa (ŚGP) Industria and the British investment fund Chiltern Vital Group. Together, they plan to work on Rolls-Royce's small modular reactor (SMR) technology in Poland.
The collaboration aims to train Polish specialists, share know-how to speed up licensing for nuclear industry components, and develop technology for low-carbon industrial parks. The project targets a realistic start-up date in the second half of the 2030s.
Previously, ŚGP Industria selected Rolls-Royce SMR technology for the Central Valley Hydrogen project in 2023. The SMR project involves a 470 MW pressurised water reactor, drawing on Rolls-Royce's expertise in nuclear ship propulsion.
Szczepan Ruman, CEO of Industria, highlighted that SMR energy has been part of CDW's plans for the Świętokrzyskie region from the start. The collaboration with Chiltern Vital Group brings experience in low-carbon projects, aligning with CDW's goals.
Industria, established from Świętokrzyskie Kopalnie Surowców Mineralnych (ŚKSM), operates mines and invests in renewable energy, hydrogen solutions, and nuclear energy. The long-term plan is to decarbonise operations and offer carbon-free energy solutions to the region.
The initiative by Rolls-Royce to build small reactors in Poland will generate employment opportunities across engineering, construction, research, and regulatory sectors. Jobs will range from nuclear engineering and project management to regulatory compliance and logistics management. This project holds the potential to boost economic growth and create a skilled workforce in Poland.
