According to EU Helpers, the Committee on Petitions of the European Parliament (PETI) passed a motion last month urging airlines operating within the EU to ensure that passengers would be allowed to bring hand bags into the cabin without being charged extra fees.
According to Healthplan Magazine, many low-cost airlines have recently enacted stringent luggage policies and started charging passengers for checking bags. Ryanair currently only offers a small handbag or backpack for free. The cost of wheeled luggage is added to the traveler's bill.
Prior to now, several low-cost airlines were the subject of a file opened by Spain's Ministry of Consumer Affairs regarding their hand luggage regulations.
The EU Court of Justice has once more reaffirmed the idea that hand luggage should be regarded as an important component of travel as soon as it satisfies certain requirements for weight and size.
In order to ensure compliance with this judgement and promote transparency regarding hand luggage tax assessments, the EU member states have asked.
In accordance with a report from Yahoo, the EU seeks to address two significant issues: the inconsistency of airline hand luggage policy and imprecise advertising that can result in unintended baggage surcharges when purchasing a ticket.
The European Court of Justice determined in 2014 that cabin luggage that complies with reasonable weight and dimension restrictions is a necessary component of air travel. Additionally, the court ruled that travelers should not be allowed to make additional payments; however, the ruling was not put into effect.
Various airlines may have various weight and size requirements. This creates issues for passengers who have connecting flights on various airlines that employ various standards, increasing the likelihood that they will be required to pay additional fees at the boarding gate.
The bloc is also urging the airlines to be more open with customers when it comes to details like extra fees and flight times, among other things.
