According to the German Federal Foreign Office, 152,336 national work visas were issued to foreigners in total in 2022, a significant rise over 2021, according to EU Helpers.
Data indicate that in 2022, Germany issued the most work permits to Indians of any nationality. 17,379 work visas were issued to Indian nationals last year; the majority of these, 8,613 work visas, were issued by the German Consulate General in Bangalore.
The German Consulate General in Mumbai (3,013) issued the second-highest number of work visas for Indian citizens, followed by the Consulate General in Chennai (2,483), the German Embassy in New Delhi (2,434), and the German Consulate in Kolkata (836).
The second-largest group of people to receive work permits from Germany in Germany are citizens of Turkey. 12,542 Turkiyean nationals received work visas in total last year.
The German Embassy in Ankara and the Consulate General in Ankara, which together issued 6,410 and 4,735 national work visas, respectively, issued the majority of the work permits for Turks. In addition, the Izmir Consulate General granted Turks 1,397 national work visas in the previous year.
In addition, Serbs received the third-highest number of beneficiaries with a total of 11,792 national work permits. The Belgrade office of the German Embassy issued each of these visas.
Other than the top three nations, Bosnians, Kosovars, Russians, Albanians, and North Macedonians also received a significant number of national work visas from Germany.
In 2022, Germany issued a total of 10,524 work visas to citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Those from Kosovo, who received 9,309 work visas, followed by those from Russia, who received 6,975 work visas, Albanians, who received 6,526 work visas, and North Macedonians, who received 5,796 work visas.
In addition to a sizable number of work visas, Germany also awarded a sizable number of other national visas in 2022.
Germany issued 393,083 national visas in total last year; spouse reunification and study visas came in second and third place after work visas in terms of volume.
In 2022, Germany issued 71,018 national study visas and 71,129 national visas for spouse reunification.
