According to EU Helpers, the survey also reveals that the sector's €355 billion (9.3%) share of the national economy emphasizes its significance in promoting economic growth and creating job possibilities.
"Last year, the Travel & Tourism sector's GDP contribution grew by 43.4 percent to reach more than €338BN, representing 8.8 percent of the economy, edging closer to the 2019 high of €374BN," according to a WTTC press statement on the research.
A total of 5.4 million jobs were added nationally during the same year thanks in large part to the industry, which added about 550,000 more positions than the year before.
According to the research, the travel and tourism industry currently accounts for one out of every eight jobs in Germany. Additionally, the industry's strong recovery is demonstrated by the fact that more than half of the one million jobs lost due to the pandemic have been recovered.
Additional data from WTTC reveals that there was a noticeable increase in foreign visitors to Germany last year, as well as a 61% increase in their spending, which came to around €31 billion.
The authority also disclosed that domestic visitor spending, presently at €304.4 billion, representing a year-over-year increase of 49%, is now very close to surpassing the pre-pandemic high of €307.8 billion.
"Germany's travel and tourism industry is rebounding well. One out of every eight jobs in Germany will be supported by it this year, adding €355 billion to the national economy, according to WTTC President & CEO Julia Simpson.
For the next ten years, Germany is expected to remain the fifth most popular tourist destination in Europe, according to Simpson. She added that this estimate highlights the nation's enduring popularity as a preferred tourism destination.
According to the WTTC's 2022 report, the travel and tourism industry in Germany was predicted to perform approximately 2.5% better than pre-pandemic levels this year, surpassing the numbers reported in 2019. In this context, the WTTC prediction also demonstrates the potential for the Travel and Tourism sector's GDP contribution to exceed €364 billion by 2023.
