The EU/Schengen countries granted residence permits to a total of 76,221 American citizens last year, according to data published by the EU's statistics agency, Eurostat, according to EU Helpers.
According to data, France, Spain, and Germany gave the most residence permits to Americans in 2022 out of all the countries, indicating that many Americans went to these three nations last year.
In 2022, 12,220 Americans received residence permits from France. This indicates that more Americans than residents of any other EU/Schengen country choose to relocate to France.
Following France are Germany (9,367) and Spain (11,156), both of which last year gave American citizens permission to live there. These numbers show that Americans are particularly fond of these two nations.
Other nations, except the three previously stated ones, also gave Americans many resident visas.
The Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, Switzerland, Ireland, Portugal, and Czechia are also among the top 10 EU/Schengen nations that issued the most residence permits to Americans in the previous year, according to data published by Eurostat.
According to information made public, more than 6,000 Americans relocated to the Netherlands and Italy in 2017 after receiving a total of 6,791 and 6,599 resident permits from those nations, respectively.
Additionally, almost 4,000 Americans relocated to Switzerland and Denmark last year. In 2022, Switzerland and Denmark each issued 4,513 and 4,689 residency permits to Americans, respectively.
According to figures, just over 3,000 Americans relocated to Ireland and Portugal last year. In 2022, Portugal and Ireland both issued 3,275 and 3,831 resident permits to Americans, respectively.
Last but not least, in 2022, more than 2,000 Americans came to Czechia after receiving one of the nation's 2,513 resident licenses.
In comparison to the other nations, Sweden, Belgium, Hungary, and Austria also issued a large number of resident visas to Americans.
According to data, in 2022 Sweden issued 2,447 residence permits to Americans, Belgium issued 1,902 residence permits, Hungary issued 1,467 residence permits, and Austria issued 1,134 residence permits.
On the other hand, the countries that issued the fewest resident permits to Americans last year were Lithuania and Liechtenstein. In 2022, they only issued Americans 54 and 27 residency permits, respectively.
