According to the official government newspaper, a new fee is set to generate revenue earmarked for promoting tourist activities in the Municipality of Amarante. Specifically, the Municipal Tourist Tax will be €2 per night from April 1 to September 30, and €1 per night from October to March, reflecting lower tourist numbers during those months. The revenue collected from this tax has been approved for enhancing the country's tourism infrastructure.
In another development, the Lisbon City Council has approved a proposal allocating €4 million towards urban hygiene in Lisbon. Additionally, the parishes of Misericórdia and Arroios will receive a fund of €1 million each, the highest amounts allocated among the city's municipalities.
Starting in April, cruise taxes have also been implemented in Lisbon, requiring passengers disembarking from cruise ships to pay €2. Furthermore, under a protocol with APL (Administration of the Port of Lisbon), the collection of the Sea Arrival Fee (TCVM) began on April 1.
The tourist tax was officially announced in January, delayed due to the effectiveness of tourist packages sold for the early part of the year. According to the Lisbon City Council, this tourist tax applies to each passenger disembarking from a cruise ship in transit at Lisbon's terminals, regardless of whether they stay overnight or not.
