The tenure of Poland's Working Group, led by Ms. Henryka Mościcka-Dendys, the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is drawing to a close.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Poland has confirmed that the group, led by Undersecretary Henryka Mościcka-Dendys, tasked with rectifying irregularities in the visa system, is nearing the completion of its responsibilities. Established by the Migration Team, the Working Group comprises experts representing various ministries and agencies. Its objective is to streamline the visa issuance system through legislative changes, culminating in the creation of a White Book. The group's mandate encompasses enhancing the issuance process for student and work visas, as well as residence and work permits for international individuals.
Instances of visa-related fraud are not uncommon in Poland. Recently, the Border Guard Post in Bydgoszcz uncovered a criminal syndicate responsible for facilitating the entry of over 10,000 foreigners into the country. Additionally, in January of this year, Poland suspended the Business Harbor Programme, designed to attract international IT specialists, due to concerns over unregulated visa issuance.
Additionally, during the summer of 2022, Polish consulates in certain countries faced criticism for allegedly issuing hundreds of thousands of temporary visas to nationals of third countries in exchange for bribes.
In response, the government took action by dismissing Piotr Wawrzyk, the former deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and implementing stricter regulations for foreigners applying for work visas.
As of January this year, Polish authorities emphasized that there has been a significant decrease in the number of work visas issued to international applicants since the implementation of these measures.
