The Immigration Office of the Faroe Islands, Útlendingastovan, has provided updated guidelines on where to submit residence permit applications. Foreign nationals residing in the Faroe Islands on legal grounds can continue to submit their applications directly to the local police, as has been the practice.
In addition to the traditional method, applicants now have the option to submit their residence permit applications via email to the Immigration Office. This new process aims to streamline applications and provide greater flexibility for those residing in the archipelago.
For those requiring special permits, such as re-entry permits or Schengen visas for international travel, these will continue to be issued by the police. It's important to note that certain foreigners living in the Faroe Islands need these permits to travel abroad.
The Immigration Office also reminds foreigners that citizens from all countries, with the exception of Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, are required to obtain both a Work and Residence Permit before they can take up residence or employment in the Faroe Islands.
