Italy has been denying visa requests at high rates for several nationalities, with Bangladeshis facing the most frequent rejections. Based on recent data, the top ten nationalities encountering significant difficulties in obtaining an Italian visa, due to high rejection rates, include:
- Gabonese
- Sri Lankans (Sinhalese)
- Ghanaians
- Dominicans
- Ivorians
- Angolans
- Algerians
- Cameroonians
- Sudanese
In 2023, Gabonese nationals filed 705 visa requests, of which 45.18% were rejected. Sri Lankan applicants experienced a rejection rate of 44.43%, with only 2,240 visas approved out of 4,031 applications. Ghanaians faced a similar rejection rate of 44.29%, with 1,230 visas approved from 2,208 applications.
Dominican nationals submitted 7,314 visa applications, with 43.7% of them (3,196) being denied. Ivorians also experienced a 43.7% rejection rate, totaling 1,540 requests denied.
Angolan nationals had 615 applications rejected, making up 41% of their total applications. Algerians saw the highest number of visa rejections, with 10,453 applications turned down, amounting to 39.92% of their total requests.
Cameroonian applicants had a rejection rate of 38.66%, with 2,271 visas denied, while Sudanese nationals saw 107 of their visa applications rejected, representing 38.63% of all requests filed.
