According to a statement released on October 10th, the Foreign Ministry has been in contact with 60 Estonian people living in Israel, with 17 of them having successfully left the country. EU Helpers reports on this information.
The Ministry further advises its nationals to follow the guidance of local authorities in neighboring nations as changes in Israel may have an impact on travel in the area. Additionally, the same reiterates its recommendation against making unscheduled trips to Lebanon.
Along with Estonia, Norway urges its nationals to avoid visiting Israel and Palestine in light of recent events in the region.
The nation's Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that residents should stay away from Southern Israel, Gaza, and areas of the occupied West Bank where violence is now on the rise.
Even the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom has updated its travel recommendations for the impacted area and now advises against visiting Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT).
Numerous airlines that operate to and from Tel Aviv, Israel, either canceled or restricted their flights as a result of the strikes, which were carried out on October 7 by Gaza's militant rulers, Hamas, out of security concerns.
Hamas surprised Israel by launching a well-planned, multi-pronged onslaught during the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah that included firing thousands of missiles and breaching Israel's heavily guarded border by air, land, and sea.
About half of the scheduled flights were canceled on Sunday, October 8, the day after the assault, and a third of them were still canceled on Monday, October 9.
Additionally, planes that were originally headed for Tel Aviv, Israel, were changed to land at Larnaca airport in Cyprus. This included aircraft from Ryanair and a San Francisco-bound Boeing 777 from United Airlines.
Other airlines also made the decision to cancel or curtail flights at Tel Aviv International Airport and Ben Gurion Airport at the same time, including Wizz Air, LOT Polish Airlines, Air India, Turkish Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Egypt Air, Air Canada, Emirates, and Air France.
