Starting June 5, 2024, Greece has introduced new measures to make it easier for highly qualified foreign professionals to work in the country. Under the new rules, individuals entering Greece under the visa-free regime or holding a short-stay Schengen visa can now apply directly for an EU Blue Card. This change is part of Greece's efforts to attract skilled workers from abroad.
In addition to expanding eligibility, Greece has also modified the pre-screening requirements for EU Blue Card applicants. Previously mandatory, pre-screening is now optional. However, while this step can extend the processing time for the Blue Card, applicants are encouraged to undergo pre-screening to minimize the risk of application rejection or requests for additional documentation.
The application process for the Greek EU Blue Card includes an initial fee of €300. The card is issued with a validity of two years, and those wishing to renew it will need to pay a renewal fee of €450. These updates are aimed at streamlining the process and making Greece a more attractive destination for international talent.
