According to the most recent figures, according to EU Helpers and the website AboutHungary run by the international communication office of the Hungarian Prime Minister, 91,000 persons have attempted to cross the border illegally so far this year.
Law enforcement officials have taken legal action against 700 people traffickers as a result. These individuals are frequently found to be part of sizable criminal organizations.
While armed occurrences on the Serbian border had previously been confined to various migrant groups, a significant development surfaced when a local person involved in community media in Hajdukovo suffered a hand grenade attack just days earlier, claims Chief Security Advisor Bakondi.
He added that the Italian and Balkan routes have seen an upsurge in illicit migration activity.
Bakondi also forewarned of the danger posed by a projected 20,000–30,000 person open refugee camp next to the Röszke border town. He voiced worry that a deal like that would unintentionally allow people connected to border shootings.
He claims that prior instances in Bicske and Debrecen have demonstrated how an open camp setup can seriously jeopardize the internal security of Hungary and Europe, including the social, health, educational, and housing systems.
According to information released by Bakondi in May 2023, Hungary discovered 49,000 instances of unauthorized border crossings this year and apprehended 387 people engaged in human smuggling.
As he says, the nation holds 2,048 people from 73 different nations, or around 12% of its prison population, on crimes related to human smuggling.
Two individuals who reside in Belgium were each given ten years in prison by the Budapest court in July 2023 for their roles in people smuggling. These smugglers were found guilty of packing an unventilated truck full of illegal immigrants.
Convicted individuals will also be prohibited from entering Hungary for ten years after serving their sentence. In this regard, the court's official statement disclosed that in April of last year, the accused attempted to transport 38 Turkish, Indian, and Syrian citizens from the Hungarian-Serbian border to Austria.
In the same time frame, two further people were detained, and a third was taken into jail in Hungary by a local court. A total of 54 people were discovered in these situations by Hungarian customs officials.
