Citizens of EU/EEA countries do not need a visa to work in Lithuania, but they must register their stay after three months. Non-EU/EEA citizens must have a work visa and can choose from four work permits based on their job application.
Despite labour shortages, the Lithuanian government has tightened foreign employment rules, now allowing only those with a residence permit to work in the country. However, exemptions exist for certain categories such as teachers, researchers, and citizens of economically developed countries. Additionally, employers in Lithuania will face stricter requirements.
These measures follow an increase in immigration system violations. Nevertheless, Lithuania remains the EU’s second easiest country to secure a work visa, after Estonia. Lithuania is also ranked among the best EU countries for a four-day workweek.
