According to EU Helpers, August's tourism expenditures increased significantly, totaling €13,529 million, a significant rise of 19.9% from the same month the year before.
Additionally, data indicate that Spain earned a total of 57.7 million during the first eight months of 2023, representing a notable gain of 19.6% compared to the previous year.
A staggering gain of 14.9% compared to 2019 and a significant increase of 24.3% compared to the same period last year, the sum of tourist spending during that time period totaled €73,393 million.
According to INE data, the average cost per visitor to Spain in August was €1343, representing a 5.3% yearly rise.
Spain's top source of tourists is still the UK.
With two million visitors, representing 20,1% of the total and a rise of 10% from August of previous year, the United Kingdom continued to hold the top spot for tourist arrivals in Spain during the same time.
France and Germany were the top two destinations for travelers to Spain after the UK. France made a large contribution with 1.9 million visitors, representing an annual rise of 17.9%, and Germany provided 1.2 million visitors, representing an increase of 5.8% from the year before.
Number of Americans traveling abroad is increasing
Tourist arrivals from the United States increased year over year, climbing to 29.5% compared to last August, among other countries of residency. Switzerland and Ireland both experienced growth of 24.1% and 22.4%, respectively.
According to other data, this year, Spain has welcomed 2.5 million Americans and 1.3 million Swiss visitors.
All Tourists Continue to Favor Catalonia

The Balearic Islands alone received 23.3% of all visitors in August. Andalucia finished in third place with 14.3% of tourist visits in August, closely followed by Catalonia with 21.1%.
In addition, INE said that Andalusia, the third most popular tourist destination in August, welcomed more than 1.4 million visitors, a rise of 11.2% annually. The majority of visitors to Andalusia came from the UK, which made up 20.8% of the total and was followed by France with 14%.
