The preferred candidate should demonstrate strong teamwork abilities, self-motivation, a willingness to work outdoors in diverse settings, and proficiency in performing cleaning, grounds maintenance, equipment upkeep, and mechanical tasks. The position entails a Monday to Friday schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with alternating weekend shifts. Weekend rotations may extend to 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. during the summer season. There are no residency requirements for this position.
Examples of Duties:
- Operating and driving trucks and equipment to transport, load, and unload materials and supplies.
- Conducting routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles, such as refueling, tire changes, oil and filter replacements, and checking batteries, lights, and fluids.
- Cleaning equipment, vehicles, and other property as instructed.
- Assisting in assembling various items like playground equipment, fences, and stages.
- Performing turf maintenance tasks such as mowing, watering, fertilizing, seeding, and trimming.
- Collecting leaves, grass clippings, and participating in annual spring park clean-ups.
- Opening and closing park facilities, ensuring security, and inspecting them, including the Park Shop complex.
- Cleaning and stocking park shelters and bathroom facilities, and collecting garbage, trash, and litter.
- Planting, pruning, and weeding trees, shrubs, flowers, and bulbs.
- Conducting winter maintenance activities like ice rink flooding, plowing, and snow removal.
- Assembling, repairing, and painting park equipment like benches, tables, and barrels.
- Assisting in setting up and dismantling Bay Beach Amusement Park rides.
- Maintaining ball diamonds and fields.
- Reporting defective equipment or hazardous conditions to supervisors.
- Keeping accurate daily records and providing training to new staff and seasonal employees as needed.
- Performing other assigned duties.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of maintenance experience, including operating trucks and equipment.
- Park maintenance experience is preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record and ability to obtain CDL endorsement within six months.
- Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Understanding of park maintenance practices, equipment maintenance, and safety procedures related to driving and equipment operation.
- Skills in building cleaning, maintenance, and operating department equipment and tools.
- Ability to maintain routine records, follow oral instructions, establish effective working relationships, and work required hours.
- May be required to demonstrate competency through approved tests.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, stooping, and lifting.
- Ability to focus for extended periods on projects.
- Capability to reach and climb, and work in varied environmental conditions.
