Stanisaw Zaryn, the deputy coordinator of special services, told the news agency that the police and Poland's Internal Security Agency (ABW) are looking into an unauthorized use of the technology involved in managing rail traffic.
Hackers transmitted a signal using railroad frequencies that caused trains in northwest Poland to stop in an emergency, causing delays, the news agency claimed.
Given recent attempts by Russia to destabilize Poland, Zaryn said any such involvement was taken seriously.
"Such attempts are being made by the Russian Federation in cooperation with Belarus, and also for this reason we do not underestimate any signals that come to the ABW," he stated.
Separately, the state railway company is looking into the Thursday derailment of two trains and collision of another two. These occurrences did not result in any injuries.
There was currently no evidence, in Zaryn's opinion, linking Thursday's incidents to the hacker attack.
