The Polish interior minister has declared that the temporary border checks with Slovakia will cease as of this coming Sunday.
Poland initially implemented border controls with Slovakia on October 4, with subsequent extensions, to manage the influx of migrants crossing from its southern neighbor. The interior ministry has now announced the removal of these controls as of March 3, citing stabilization of the situation along the Balkan route and a decrease in the threat of illegal migration. However, the ministry emphasized ongoing monitoring of the migration situation, with the possibility of resuming border control activities if the threat increases. Previously, individuals could only cross the border at specified crossings and were required to present identification such as an ID or passport.
