The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recently announced that the fee for a national visa (type D) will increase from €80 to €135, effective June 1 of this year. According to a press release by the Ministry, the fee for a Schengen visa (type C) and the fee for re-examination of a Schengen visa application will also increase due to rising consular administration costs. The statement indicates that this change is anticipated to increase the availability of appointments for first-time visa applicants.
The Ministry further explained that this adjustment is directly related to the planned increase in the fee for the acceptance and examination of short-term visa applications among Schengen states in 2024, rising from €80 to €90. Additionally, the Ministry expects that the new national visa fee will reduce the number of applicants whose actual purpose for staying in Poland differs from their declared intent. The Draft Regulation to amend Polish consular fees was initially submitted on April 2, 2024, proposing an increase in the fee for issuing a Polish national visa from €80 to €135.
The D visa application form must be submitted in person, as visa application offices do not accept forms sent by fax, regular mail, or email. The decision to issue the visa is made within 15 working days from the date the application fee is paid. However, if the documents require more detailed examination, the processing period can be extended to up to 30 days.
