Portugal has won 22 accolades this year, according to rankings by the World Travel accolades, and has received praise for its airline, resorts, hotels, and tourist attractions, according to EU Helpers.
More specifically, for the sixth year running, or ever since the World Travel Awards introduced this category in 2018, Passadiços do Paiva (Arouca UNESCO Global Geopark) has been recognized as Europe's Leading Adventure Tourist Attraction. For the seventh year running, TAP Air Portugal has also been named Europe's Leading Airline to Africa and South America, making it an undisputed champion in these two categories.
The prize for Europe's top all-inclusive resort, which went to Pestana Porto Santo All-Inclusive for the second consecutive year, was also taken by Portugal. Portugal's resorts have held the title of top all-inclusive resorts in Europe since 2016, having supplanted the Turkish Concorde De Luxe Resort in 2014.
Portuguese beaches have been recognized as Europe's Leading Beach Destination since 2012, and it has only once lost this title to Oludeniz, Turkey (2011), Corfu (2014), and Peloponnese, Greece (2018). Portugal also continues to be a non-contestant winner in this category.
After losing out to Sunborn Yacht Hotel London, England (2021) and Kivotos Mykonos, Greece (2022) for the title of Europe's Leading Boutique Hotel, Verride Palacio Santa Catarina was able to win it back and bring it back to Portugal.
Portugal's Porto won the title of "Europe's Leading City Break Destination" this year; Lisbon will take home the title in 2022. In general, cities like Istanbul, London, Geneva, Lyon, Athens, Saint Petersburg, as well as Porto and Lisbon in Portugal, shared this accolade.
Lisbon was also named as 2023's Leading City Destination in Europe, displacing Porto, which had received this honor the year before.
Furthermore, Lisbon Cruise Port in Portugal was once more chosen as the Leading Cruise Port of the Year, earning this honor for this cruise port for the eighth consecutive year.
The Leadins Island Resort, Landmark Hotel, Lifestyle Resort, and Luxury Boutique Hotel were also recognized as winners on behalf of Portugal.
Portugal received recognition for having Europe's Leading Wine Region Hotel, as well as for the Most Romantic Resort and Responsible Tourism Award. It also received awards for Luxury Business Hotel, Resort Vullas, Sports Resort, and Villa Resort for the Year.
