Sweden is preparing to make significant changes to its EU Blue Card regulations, with the goal of attracting more foreign talent to the country. The government has announced plans to lower the minimum salary requirement for obtaining an EU Blue Card. Currently, applicants must earn at least 1.5 times the average monthly salary in Sweden. However, under the new rules, this threshold will be reduced to 1.25 times the average salary.
This adjustment means that once the new regulations take effect, EU Blue Card applicants will be eligible if they earn at least €4,300 per month, down from the current requirement of €5,200.
In addition to lowering the salary threshold, Sweden is also planning to simplify the process for foreign nationals already holding a Swedish residence and work permit to switch to an EU Blue Card. Moreover, the new rules will streamline the application procedure for those who already possess an EU Blue Card from another EU member state, making it easier for them to obtain a Swedish EU Blue Card.
These changes are part of Sweden's broader strategy to attract and retain skilled professionals from abroad, ensuring the country remains competitive in the global market for talent.
