The analysis of the average flight price progression during the previous two years, according to Mabrian, led to the conclusion that flying to the Netherlands is the most expensive option for travelers in northern Europe, according to EU Helpers.
Flight costs to the Netherlands began rising in the spring due to the high demand and this year's record-breaking booking rate, peaking throughout the summer when more travelers chose to visit the country.
In addition to the Netherlands, several northern European nations experienced an increase in travel costs, however some others have experienced a more consistent trend.
According to Mabrian data, the Netherlands is followed by the United Kingdom, which had the largest increase in flight prices between 2021 and 2023.
Norway has been the nation with the most constant flight fares over the past two years, while France and Germany had high price peaks in 2022.
Gavin Eccles, an aviation and tourism consultant with GE Consulting, commented on the topic and noted that, when looking specifically at northern Europe, flight prices for the period of January 23 to June 22 showed a significant increase in the first few months, with travel from countries in the region continuing to experience strong growth through the winter and early summer.
The Netherlands has remained one of the most sought-after travel destinations in Europe despite rising airfare costs this year.
Recent data from Statistics Netherlands shows that in the second quarter of 2023, the country's five major airports handled about 19 million passenger arrivals and departures.
Similar to previous years, the second quarter of this year saw 115,000 flights at Schiphol Airport, which set a new record.
In terms of passenger traffic, Eindhoven Airport, the second busiest airport in the Netherlands, saw 1.9 million arrivals and departures.
