The UK government has announced that all EU citizens, including children and infants, will soon need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before entering the UK. This requirement applies to those who do not need a visa and are not planning to work, live, or study in the country.
UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper highlighted that the new ETA system aims to enhance border security by ensuring authorities have a clear understanding of everyone entering the country. She stated that the scheme would address current gaps in advance travel permissions and provide better oversight of incoming travelers.
"The ETA will allow us to have a comprehensive understanding of those coming into the UK, marking a significant improvement in border security," Cooper said.
The ETA will be processed within three days of application and will remain valid for two years. Holders will be able to visit the UK multiple times during this period, as long as no individual stay exceeds 60 days without returning to their home country.
