Many other sources exist for the Global Passport Ranking, but Henley Passport Index has been the trusted source since 2006. So in this article, we have prepared the World Passport Ranking 2023 list based on the data from HPI. According to the data, Japan has the best passport in 2023, with a visa-free score of 193. The passport holders of this country can travel to 193 countries without applying for a visa.

South Korea and Singapore are in second place in the World Passport Ranking, with their visa-on-arrival score of 192. The lowest rambling country in the Global Passport Ranking is Afghanistan, with a score of only 27. The country provides visa-free access to only 27 countries.  The other low-ranking coin tries are Pakistan, Iraq, and Syria. These countries have shut the doors of economic mobility and development.

How Is The World Passport Ranking Determined?

The Henley Passport Index ranks all passports on the basis of the data collected from the International Air Transport Association. If a passport holder of any country does not need to apply for a visa to travel to a particular country, then one mark is awarded to that country’s passport.

If the visitor can get a visa upon entry to other countries with a visitor’s permit, electronic travel authority or visa on arrival, then in these cases also, that country’s passport will get one point. On the contrary, a traveller does need a visa to travel besides these three ways for a particular country, their passport score is 0 per country.

World Passport Index Points: India

The Global Passport Index list for the current year was published in March 2023. As per the list, the ranking of most of the countries has fallen down due to the Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on travel. India, too is not the exception. The mobility score of India, as per the World’s Passport ranking list, is 70. With India ranking on the 144th spot in HPI in 2023 has the largest global drop.

Only ten countries have seen a rise in their mobility score this year. Japan held the first position tightly, but Sweden surpassed Germany and came to the second position, while Kenya jumped four places, the highest gain record this year.

China is among the countries that experienced a major downfall in the World Passport Ranking 2023. The reason is pretty clear as it is believed that China is the origin country of the Covid-19 pandemic. The country is currently holding the 79th position in the HPI and provides visa-free access to only 70 countries.

Diplomatic Relationships Playing A Critical Role In Passport Ranking

Countries having good relations with other countries have high Visa-free scores on the Global Passport Ranking. Singapore is the perfect example of this. Singapore has had a good relationship with most countries in the world for over a decade, gaining visa-free access to 193 destinations this year.

Contrary to this, the United States is experiencing a decline in recent past years due to its diplomatic relations with other countries despite being the most developed and influential country in the world. The country’s passport ranking is 187 as of 2023, 6 less than  Singapore.
